The similarities of Mr. Deeds and Mr. Deeds goes to town is that deeds in the newer Mr. Deeds is a volunteer firefighter and he is very polite to the ladies in the movie and stands up for their honor. He is also looking for a women in distress to save and fall in love with. The newspapers of New York City just wanted to make him look like an idiot and a selfish jerk that cared for himself and only himself. Then someone in both the movies were trying to get the money and control of the company because they didn't want to lose their power.
The main differences are that the people in the first movie "Mr. Deeds Goes To Town" is that they show one playing the tuba and writing good poetry and the other one just writes bad poetry and the people in the first movie they all are smart while in the remake they are all kind of hillbillyish in a way. The uncle dies differently too, in the first movie he dies in a car crash while the remake shows that he died while climbing a mountain during a blizzard and freezes to death. Also one more thing in the first movie Mr. Deeds goes to court for the loss of his money while in the remake Mr. Deeds signs it away because he didn't want it because it reminded him of Pam Dawson.
In my personal opinion I think that both movies are great but if I had to choose I would choose the Adam Sandler remake because it told you more of his uncle and what kind of man he was. I also think that putting Babe Bennett in a news area instead of a newspaper company was a good change to show that it was caught up to our time.
